Biopsy Procedures: Sentinel Node Localization

What is sentinel node localization?

Physicians conduct a sentinel node localization procedure to determine if cancer has spread outside the initially found cancerous tissue into the lymphatic system. A tracer material is inserted into the body so the doctor can locate the lymph nodes during surgery. These lymph nodes are then removed and analyzed for cancerous cells.
