Mammographic Techniques
What are mammographic techniques?
Mammographic techniques are technical skills for positioning and imaging a patient’s breast tissue. Medical personnel use these techniques to ensure that the images produced from the session are as clear as possible and that the least amount of breast tissue overlaps between the plates.
In what instances are mammographic techniques used?
Both types of mammography use mammographic techniques: film-screen mammography and digital mammography. Four images are taken in total: both breasts are imaged in the craniocaudal (CC) and mediolateral oblique (MLO).
Are mammographic techniques for both types of mammography the same?
Both types of mammography use the same techniques to produce quality images for interpretation.
Who performs mammographic techniques?
A qualified radiologic technician performs the mammographic techniques necessary for quality imaging.
