#density: Is "areas of fibroglandular density" an MQSA-compliant density statement?

QUESTION:

Can film readers state “areas of fibroglandular density” on the report and still be in compliance?

ANSWER:

No, the MQSA Requirements are as follows:

  • “The breasts are almost entirely fatty.”
  • “There are scattered areas of fibroglandular density.”
  • “The breasts are heterogeneously dense, which may obscure small masses.”
  • “The breasts are extremely dense, which lowers the sensitivity of mammography.”

Any other wording is incorrect and not in compliance with MQSA Requirements.
